Oil stains, such as those from scissors, can appear on silk tussah, but this does not mean your fabric is ruined. With the right materials and a bit of time, you can restore your silk back to its original glory.

Materials and Steps

  • Cornstarch or talcum powder
  • Soft scrub brush
  • Cold water

Start off by sprinkling some cornstarch or talcum powder onto the oil stain. This will absorb some of the oil and reduce area affected. Once you have covered the entire stain, let it sit for 30 minutes.

After the powder has been allowed to set, get a soft scrub brush and gently rub powder around stain. This will help break up oil, making it easier to clean.

Once the oil has been broken down, use cold water to rinse the silk fabric. It is important to use cold water for this step as hot water will cause the oil to seep in further.

Once fabric has been soaked, lay it on a flat surface and allow it to air dry. You may need to repeat the process if the oil stain is particularly stubborn.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can easily remove oil stains from silk tussah. It may take a few attempts, but you should be able to restore your fabric back to its former glory with ease.
