Start by blotting the stain gently with a clean cloth. Make sure not to rub the stain, or you could make it worse. Blot it gently until you absorb as much of the oils as possible.
Mix a solution of a couple of drops of mild, color-safe detergent in a cup of warm water. Dip a clean cloth in the solution and apply a small amount on stained area of the silk habotai. Let the detergent sit on the fabric for a few minutes.
Once again, use a clean cloth to blot the stained area with the detergent solution. Work from the outside of the stain towards the center. This will help to draw the stain away from the fabric and prevent it from penetrating deeper into the fabric.
Finally, rinse the area with lukewarm water and let fabric air dry. Inspect your fabric for any remaining areas of the stain and repeat the process if necessary.
No matter how tempted you may be, never put silk fabric in the dryer. The heat can cause the fabric to shrink and may make the stain even more difficult to remove. Always air dry instead!
