What You’ll Need

  • Plastic scraper or a dull knife
  • Paper towels
  • Shoe cleaner or mild detergent
  • Soft-bristled brush
  • Clean cloth

Step 1: Remove The Excess Oil

Start by using a plastic scraper or a dull knife to scrape off as much of the oil as you can. Be careful not to press too hard so that the shoe isn't damaged.

Step 2: Sponge Away Remaining Oil

Next, take a paper towel and dampen with warm, soapy water (mild liquid detergent works best). Use a gentle circular motion and apply light pressure while gently rubbing away any remaining oil residue on the shoe.

Step 3: Clean Stain With Shoe Cleaner

If you have a specialty shoe cleaner on hand, now is the time to use it. Apply the cleaner to the stained area using a soft-bristled brush such as an old toothbrush or an old mascara wand. Again, use circular motions and light pressure with the brush in order to help remove stain without damaging shoe.

Step 4: Wipe with a Damp Cloth

After scrubbing the shoe with the cleaner and brush, take a clean cloth and dampen with warm, soapy water. Gently wipe down the shoe to remove any remaining oil residue and shoe cleaner.

Step 5: Dry and Admire!

Finally, dry the shoe thoroughly with a clean paper towel. If done correctly, the oil stain should have been erased and your shoe should look as good as new!
