The first step to removing the stain is to blot it with a dry, clean cloth. Work in a gentle circular motion to absorb as much of the oil as possible. If the cloth becomes saturated with oil, switch to a new one.
In a small bowl, mix together a few drops of dish detergent and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Stir the mixture until it creates a thick foam.
Gently apply the mixture to stain with a soft brush. Take care to only apply the mixture to the stain and not to the rest of the dress. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes.
After five minutes have passed, use a damp cloth to rinse the stain with cold water. Be sure to use a gentle circular motion as you rinse.
If you still see traces of the stain, repeat steps two through four until it has been completely removed.
Once the stain has been removed, allow the dress to air dry. Do not tumble dry it, as the heat can cause the stain to set in permanently.
Now that the stain is gone, you can enjoy wearing your shift dress once more!
