What You Need

  • A soft cloth
  • A gentle detergent or soap
  • A bottle of rubbing alcohol

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prepare your materials. Gather the items listed above. Make sure the cloth is soft and not abrasive, as this could damage the fabric.
  2. Blot the stain to remove excess oil. Start by blotting the oil stain with the soft cloth. Do not rub the stain – just press it against the fabric until you’ve absorbed as much oil as possible.
  3. Apply the detergent or soap. Create a lather of the detergent or soap on the stain and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Rinse off the detergent/soap mixture. Rinse the area with clean water and then blot dry with a cloth.
  5. Apply rubbing alcohol. Dab rubbing alcohol onto the stain and allow it to soak in.
  6. Rinse off the rubbing alcohol. Rinse off the rubbing alcohol with warm water, then blot the area with a soft cloth.
  7. Allow time to dry. Allow the area to air dry completely before wearing or using the shearling.

Tips for Success

  • Always use a soft cloth when blotting the stain.
  • Do not apply heat to the fabric, as this may cause it to shrink or warp.
  • Be sure to rinse off all of the detergent/soap and rubbing alcohol before allowing the area to dry.
