If you have accidentally stained your poplin fabric with scissors oil, don't panic. With the right cleaning supplies and method, it is possible to remove the oil and restore the fabric to its original form. By following these easy steps, you can remove and prevent further stains from occurring in the future.
The first step is to gently blot the stained area of the fabric. Use a clean and absorbent cloth, such as microfiber or cotton, to soak up any excess oil that remains on the surface of the fabric. Do not rub fabric, as this will only spread the oil further and make stain more difficult to remove.
Once the excess oil has been blotted away, it is time to pretreat the stained area. Mix together a solution of liquid laundry detergent and cool water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and gently dab it onto the stained area of the fabric. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before proceeding to the next step.
Finally, it is time to wash the fabric. Gently rub the stained area with your fingers to help work the pretreating solution into the fibers of the fabric. Then place the fabric in the washing machine and set cycle to the gentlest setting. Use a mild detergent and cold water to ensure that the fabric won't be damaged during the washing process. Once the cycle is finished, remove the fabric and hang it to dry.
To prevent future oil stains from forming on your poplin fabric, it is important to keep your scissors clean. Since scissors tend to accumulate oil, it is best to regularly wipe them down with a clean cloth that has been dampened with a mixture of dish soap and warm water. Additionally, be sure to store your scissors in a upright position so that they do not collect oil in their joints.
