When working with scissors, accidents can happen. You can easily get oil from the blades onto your clothes or other fabrics, leaving behind an unsightly stain.
The first thing to do if you find yourself in this situation is to act quickly. It’s important to clean a scissors oil stain as soon as possible to avoid long-term damage to the fabric. To start cleaning your piqué fabric, you’ll want to take some simple steps.
Take a paper towel or cloth and gently blot the stained area. Don't rub it; just blot it. Remember, do not use water yet. Rubbing or scrubbing stain could cause it to spread more than necessary.
Now it’s time to start removing the stain. Take a mild detergent, such as dish soap, and apply it directly to the stain. Gently work the detergent into the fabric with a soft-bristled brush. After you’ve worked the detergent in, allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing.
Carefully rinse the stained area with cold water. Repeat as necessary until the stain has been completely removed. Once the stain is gone, wash the entire piece of fabric as you normally would.
Oil stains from scissors can be difficult to remove, but with these techniques you can make process much easier. Just remember to act quickly and to follow the steps outlined above to ensure the best results.
