Removing Stains

Before you begin, test any cleaning product on an inconspicuous spot to make sure it doesn't damage the leather. Also, make sure to use gentle cleaning techniques – too much scrubbing could cause damage to the material.

  1. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a shallow bowl or container.
  2. Dip a soft cloth into mixture and rub it onto stained area. Allow the vinegar and water to penetrate stain for several minutes.
  3. Rinse the cloth with clean water and blot the stain. Do not rub.
  4. If the stain persists, use a leather cleaner to spot clean the stained area. Follow the instructions on the cleaner.
  5. Pat the area dry with a clean, absorbent cloth.

Protecting Against Further Damage

To prevent oil stains from reappearing, apply a leather conditioner or protector to the item. Apply conditioner according to the instructions on package. This will help protect the leather from further damage, and will help keep the item looking like new.
