Oil stains on jeans are one of the most difficult types of stains to remove. It's not as simple as pretreating a stain and tossing it in the wash - oil stains require more care and attention. But don't despair - with the help of some common household items, you can easily remove these stains from your jeans.
When you first notice the oil stain, use a paper towel or clean cloth to blot area. Do not scrub or brush the stain; this will only spread the oil further and make the stain worse. Keep blotting until no more oil is absorbed by the cloth.
Once the excess oil has been blotted away, it's time to apply a cleaning agent. You can use dish soap, laundry detergent, white vinegar, or a mixture of baking soda and water. Apply the cleaning agent directly to the stain, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. This will give it time to saturate the fabric and break down the oil.
Once the cleaning agent has had enough time to work its magic, use cool water to rinse away the cleaning solution. Make sure that all of the solution is removed before moving on to the next step.
Finally, put your jeans in the washing machine on a gentle cycle. You may need to repeat steps 2-4 a few times before the stain is completely gone. If the stain is still present after the first wash, try using a stronger cleaning agent and giving it more time to work.
If the stain is particularly stubborn, try soaking it overnight in a solution of detergent and warm water. The added time should help to remove the stain completely.
