Scissor oil can be a difficult stain to remove, as it is composed of mineral oil and other ingredients that cling to fibers and dry quickly. As tempting as it may be to try to scrub the stain off, this can actually push scissor oil deeper into your clothing’s fabric and make it much more difficult to remove. Instead, here are some easy steps to erase scissor oil stains from your J Crew clothing.
Take a clean cloth and gently blot the stain with cold water. Do not scrub or rub the stain, as this could spread the stain. You want to absorb as much of the oil as possible before applying any cleaning product to the stain.
Mix equal parts dish soap and warm water in a bowl to create a pre-treatment solution. Apply the solution to the stained area, using a soft brush to gently work it into fabric. Allow the solution to sit for 10 minutes so that it can break down the scissor oil.
Once 10 minutes have passed, launder the clothing as you normally would. For the best results, use a detergent specifically designed for removing oil-based stains. Check the label for dosage instructions.
Once the cycle is finished, take clothing out of the machine and check to see if any traces of scissor oil remain. If so, repeat Steps 1–3. Otherwise, dry the clothing according to the care label instructions.
These four steps should help you remove scissor oil stains from your J Crew clothing without too much hassle. And with a bit of luck, you’ll be able to keep your clothes looking like new for years to come.
