Step 1: Gather Materials

Gather materials such as absorbent paper towels, a clean cloth, laundry detergent, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and a toothbrush.

Step 2: Blot the Stain

The first step is to blot stain with a paper towel. This will help absorb some of oil. Do not rub or scrub at the stain as this may cause further damage.

Step 3: Create a Detergent Solution

Next, mix one tablespoon of laundry detergent with two cups of warm water in a small bowl. Stir until the detergent is completely dissolved.

Step 4: Apply Detergent Solution

Using a clean cloth, apply the detergent solution to stain. Be sure to dab rather than rub. Allow the solution to sit on the stain for a few minutes before rinsing off.

Step 5: Use Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide

Once you’ve rinsed off the detergent solution, you can use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to further remove the stain. Start by sprinkling a generous amount of baking soda over the stain. Then, using an old toothbrush, scrub the mixture into the fabric. Finally, pour hydrogen peroxide over the area, making sure it fully saturates the fabric. Allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes before rinsing off.

Step 6: Clean and Dry

After rinsing off the mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, clean the entire flip flop with a damp cloth and then dry with a clean towel. The stain should be effectively removed.
