General Cleaning Tips

Before attempting any more intense cleaning, there are a few simple tips you should try that don’t require any special supplies:

  • Dab the stained area with a clean cloth to remove any excess, but be careful not to rub.
  • Turn fabric inside out and place it in the sun for an hour or two. This method works best with natural fabrics like cotton or linen.
  • Air-dry overnight to give it time for the stain to loosen and dissipate.

Cleaning With Soap and Water

If the stain is still visible after the general cleaning techniques, try using a mild detergent or soap with warm water. Follow the steps below for the best results:

  • Mix the detergent or soap with warm water and soak stained section of the fabric in mixture for at least five minutes.
  • Rinse the fabric with clean water, then air dry.
  • If stain is still visible, repeat steps one and two.

Cleaning With Vinegar and Baking Soda

This method is best used for white lace. Be sure to test this method on a hidden section of lace before treating the stained area.

  • Mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with one cup of warm water and stir to combine.
  • Add one teaspoon of baking soda and mix until the powder has dissolved.
  • Soak the stained section of the fabric in the mixture for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water, then air dry.
  • If the stain hasn’t fully disappeared, repeat steps one through four.

Cleaning With Alcohol

If the stain is still visible after trying soap and water or vinegar and baking soda, there’s one last option: rubbing alcohol. Remember to test this method on a hidden section of the lace first.

  • Dip a clean cloth or sponge in a solution of one part rubbing alcohol and two parts water.
  • Gently dab the stain with the damp cloth or sponge, being careful not to rub or scrub.
  • Allow the fabric to air dry.
  • If the stain persists, repeat steps one and two until the stain is gone.
