Step 1: Blot the Stain

Take a dry absorbent cloth or paper towel and blot the stain. This will help you to remove any excess oil still sitting on the fabric. Do not rub as this could spread the stain.

Step 2: Apply Solvent

Next, take a solvent and gently apply it to the stain. If the fabric is white, you can use a product like spot remover or isopropyl alcohol. For colored fabrics, try using a diluted detergent solution. Let the solvent sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off with cool water.

Step 3: Use Detergent

Now take a small amount of mild laundry detergent and mix it with some warm water. Gently dab the stained area with the solution. Do not rub or scrub the fabric, as this could damage delicate fibers. Rinse off the detergent with cool water.

Step 4: Remove Excess Moisture

Once all the detergent and solvent have been washed away, use a clean dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture. Then, lay fabric flat to air dry.

Step 5: Treat Remaining Stains

If there are still traces of stain, you can treat them with a pretreatment solution. Follow the directions on label for best results.

Step 6: Dry Clean

For stubborn stains that just won’t go away, take the fabric to a professional dry cleaner. They will be able to use most appropriate cleaning method to get rid of the stains without damaging the delicate fabric.
