What You'll Need

  • Mild dish soap
  • Duct tape
  • Baking soda
  • White paper towels
  • Clean cloth or rag

Step 1: Create a Poultice

Start by creating a poultice. Mix baking soda with equal parts dish soap and water until you have a thick paste. Spread the paste liberally over the scissors oil stain, then cover it with several pieces of duct tape. Leave the poultice to sit overnight.

Step 2: Remove Poultice

Remove the duct tape and carefully scrape off the poultice. You should see a noticeable difference in the stain's color. If not, repeat process until you do.

Step 3: Blot the Stain With White Paper Towels

Once the paste has been removed, take a white paper towel and dab the stain. Be sure to use white towels, as colored towels may bleed dye onto fabric. Keep blotting until no more oil residue comes off on the paper towels.

Step 4: Wash Fabric

After all oil has been removed, you can wash the fabric. Use a mild detergent and cold water and gently rub the fabric together to further loosen any remaining residue. Hang the fabric to dry, and inspect it once it's finished.

Conclusion

Although it might seem like an impossible task, removing scissors oil stains from a dashiki is simpler than you think. Follow steps above, and you'll have your fabric looking as good as new in no time.
