Oil stains can be difficult to remove from fabrics like cotton poplin, but they aren't impossible. Start by blotting away excess oil with absorbent paper towels. Take care not to rub or press hard as this may drive the oil further into the fabric. Once the excess oil has been blotted away, use a stain removal solution to treat the stain. A solution of one part dish soap and 3 parts cold water should do the trick. Rub the mixture onto stained area with an old toothbrush and then rinse with cold water. Be sure to check for any residue before placing the item in a washing machine. If necessary, you can repeat the process until the stain is gone.
If the stain is still present after washing, try applying a paste of 2 parts baking soda and 1 part water. Spread the paste evenly over the stain, let it dry, and then brush it away. Rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary. You can also try using rubbing alcohol for tough stains. Pour a small amount directly on the stain, let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse with cold water.
It's important to remember that while these methods can help with removing scissors oil stains from cotton poplin, there is possibility that the stain won't completely come out. If none of these approaches seem to work, don't hesitate to bring the item to your local dry cleaner.
