Materials Needed

  • White cloth, paper towels or rag
  • Dish detergent, Castile soap or other mild soap
  • Bowl or container filled with warm water
  • Soft-bristled brush or toothbrush
  • Gentle laundry detergent
  • Cotton swab or cloth
  • Leather conditioner (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soak the affected area using a cloth, paper towel or rag in a bowl of warm water mixed with a gentle dish detergent, such as Castile soap.
  2. Gently rub the cloth against the stained area until the oil is removed. Take care not to damage the fabric, and be sure to thoroughly rinse the cloth before and after each use.
  3. Using a soft-bristled brush or toothbrush, scrub away any remaining oil stains with a gentle laundry detergent.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with warm water
  5. If you wish, you can apply a leather conditioner to the affected area to help keep it looking its best.

Additional Tips

  • Be sure to test any cleaning products on an inconspicuous area of shoe first.
  • Allow the shoes to air dry completely before wearing them again.
  • Keep a whitening cloth handy to remove any dirt or scuffs that may appear after cleaning.
  • If the stain persists, try using a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to remove it.
