Oil stains on clothing can be particularly stubborn, so it's important to know how to tackle them quickly. The first step is to pretreat area and let it sit for at least 15 minutes, then throw the article of clothing into the washing machine. If you don't have time to wait, there are a few other options available.

Baking soda is an excellent treatment for oil stains as it can help absorb the oils and break them up. Put some baking soda directly onto the stain and lightly rub it in with your fingers. Let sit for 10 minutes, then use a damp cloth to wipe off any excess powder. If possible, run the garment through a wash cycle after treating the stain, to ensure that all the oils are properly removed.

Vinegar is also a useful treatment for oil stains. Dilute white vinegar with 1 part water and gently rub the stain with a cloth soaked in the mixture. You can also apply full-strength vinegar directly to the stain and let sit for 15 minutes before washing as normal.

Finally, consider using a laundry detergent designed just for treating oil stains. These products are formulated with enzymes that work to dissolve the oils and break up the stains. Follow the instructions on the package, and remember to rinse the garment after treatment.

Oil stains can be a nuisance, but they don't have to be. With the right knowledge and materials, you can tackle those stains quickly and effectively, and get your coat looking clean and new again.
