Having a stain on your favorite clothing item can be extremely disheartening, especially when it seems impossible to remove. Scissor oil stains are particularly tricky because they seep into fabrics, leaving a greasy residue. But don’t worry – it is possible to remove them with a few household items and some patience.

What You'll Need

  • Liquid dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Soft toothbrush

Instructions

  1. Start by wetting the stained area with warm water.
  2. Squeeze a few drops of liquid dish soap onto the stain and use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub the area.
  3. Rinse the area with warm water until the soap has been completely removed.
  4. Mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water and apply the solution to the stained area.
  5. Allow the solution to sit for 10-15 minutes, then rinse the area with warm water.
  6. If the stain remains, try sprinkling baking soda onto the area and using a toothbrush to scrub the area in circular motions. Rinse the area with warm water.
  7. If stain still persists, repeat steps again.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Remember to use cold water only when rinsing the stained area, as hot water may cause the oil to seep deeper into fabric’s fibers.
  • Do not put the cardigan in a washing machine as this can cause permanent damage.
  • After removing stain, use a fabric stain remover to completely eliminate all traces of the oil.
