Scissors oil is a unique type of stain because it’s both water-based and oil-based. This makes it difficult to remove with typical cleaning products. However, there are a few simple techniques that can help you get rid of the oily marks.
The first step in eliminating your stain is to pre-treat it. To do this, mix a cup of warm water and one tablespoon of dish soap and stir it together. Dip a clean cloth into mixture, wring it out, and then rub it over the stain area.
Once the pre-treater has been applied to the stained area, it’s time to create the actual cleaning solution. Mix ¼ cup of rubbing alcohol and ¼ cup of white vinegar in a bowl. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and apply it to stained area.
After the cleaning solution has been applied to stained area, rinse it off with warm water. Once area is rinsed, dry the board shorts with a clean towel.
If the stain persists, don’t worry! There are still some methods you can use to eliminate it. Try using a special oil or grease-fighting stain remover. Apply the stain remover directly to the stained area, let it sit for five minutes, and then rinse it off with warm water.
To prevent future stains, you should always keep scissors oil away from your board shorts. Additionally, if you already have an oily stain, handle it quickly and apply the suggested cleaning method as soon as possible. If you can catch the stain before it becomes set in, it will be much easier to remove.
