Oil stains on alpaca fabric can range in size and severity but should always be treated quickly to prevent them from setting in. Here are a few simple tips for getting rid of them:

  1. Mix together a solution of one part dish soap and three parts warm water.
  2. Dab the solution onto the stain with a cloth, taking care not to scrub or rub alpaca fabric.
  3. Let the solution sit for five minutes before blotting up any excess water with paper towels.
  4. Repeat steps two and three until the oil stain is gone.
  5. If the stain remains, mix a solution of two parts vinegar and one part baking soda and apply the same dab-and-blot method as before. The vinegar will help break down the oil while baking soda absorbs remaining grease.
  6. Finally, allow the alpaca fabric to air dry, or use a hairdryer set to the cool setting.

These methods can also be used to clean other natural fabrics such as wool and cotton. If you find that the stain persists after several attempts, take garment to a professional dry cleaner who has experience with alpaca fabrics.

With these few easy steps, you should be able to keep your alpaca fabric free of oil stains and looking its best.
