If possible, attend to the stain right away. Blot the spot with a dry cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of the dressing as you can. Don't rub or scrub the stain, as this can make it deeper in the material.
If your salad dressing was oily, you need to tackle the grease first. Start by sprinkling baking soda on the stain and letting it sit for 10 minutes. Baking soda is great for absorbing greasy deposits from the fabric.
Mix together a solution of warm water, liquid dish soap, and white vinegar. To a bowl, add 1 1/2 tablespoons of dish soap and 1 tablespoon each of white vinegar and warm water. Dip a cloth or sponge into the mixture and gently scrub the stain, taking care not to rub too hard. Keep dabbing the stain until all the soap is absorbed.
Rinse the stained area with cold water, blotting with a dry cloth if necessary. Then turn the pants inside out, place them in washing machine and select a cold cycle and a gentle detergent. Hang the pants to dry, and inspect the stain to make sure it's been removed. Repeat steps if necessary.
