berry Having a white dress tie for special occasions is a must for any sophisticated gentleman. But an accident like spilling some salad dressing on it can leave your garment looking less than pristine. Fortunately, this problem is not unfixable – with the right steps and materials, you can get rid of that annoying stain in no time.

What You Will Need

  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Cotton ball or Q-tip
  • Baking soda
  • Soft cloth

Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain with Dish Soap

Start by pre-treating the stain with dish soap – but be sure to use one that is mild and not too harsh so as to not damage the fabric. Take a small amount of dish soap and gently rub it onto the stained area. Let the fabric absorb it for 5 minutes.

Step 2: Soak the Tie in White Vinegar

Next, take a bowl of water and mix in some white vinegar. Put the stained area into the bowl and let it soak for 30 minutes. The vinegar will help loosen and remove the stain.

Step 3: Scrub the Stain with a Cotton Ball or Q-Tip

Once the 30 minutes are up, take a cotton ball or Q-tip and start scrubbing the stain. Make sure that you’re gentle and also be careful not to spread the stain further.

Step 4: Rinse the Tie with Water

After scrubbing the stain, rinse the tie with cold water. Continue to rinse the tie until the vinegar is completely removed. Then, lay your tie flat to dry.

Step 5: Treat with Baking Soda

Once your tie is dry, sprinkle some baking soda onto the stain. Then, use a soft cloth to work the baking soda into the fabric. The baking soda will help absorb any remaining moisture and also help deodorize the fabric.

Step 6: Wash the Tie in the Washing Machine

After treating the stain with baking soda, put your tie into washing machine and wash it using the gentlest setting. Be sure to use cold water and only mild detergent.

Step 7: Air-Dry the Tie

Let the tie air-dry and inspect for any remaining stains. If there are none, then your tie should be good as new!
