It happens to all of us; we open our umbrellas to enjoy a meal in the park, and the next thing we know, a splatter of salad dressing has landed on our trusty companion. The good news is, cleaning off these stains isn’t too difficult with right supplies and techniques! All you need is:

  • White vinegar
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Baking soda
  • Soft cloths

Once you have all of these items handy, here’s what you should do:

  1. First, use a paper towel or another soft cloth to blot at the stain until no more liquid remains.
  2. Then, mix together a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts warm water. Dip a cloth in the solution and gently scrub the stained area of the umbrella.
  3. If the stain still doesn’t come out, try mixing together a paste of two parts baking soda and one part water. Rub the paste onto the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes. Wipe away the paste with a damp cloth and then rinse off the spot with warm water.
  4. Finally, apply a drop of liquid dish soap directly onto the stained spot. Rub the soap in until it forms a lather, then rinse off the area with warm water.

When you’re finished, your umbrella should look as good as new again! You may need to repeat the steps if the stain is especially stubborn, but if you follow these instructions carefully, you’ll have great results.
