If you notice that your tuxedo has been stained by salad dressing, the first thing you should do is act fast. The longer you leave a stain untreated, harder it will be to remove.

Begin by blotting the stain with a paper towel or washcloth to absorb as much excess moisture as possible. Do not rub the stain, as this could cause it to spread.

Next, mix a solution of cool water and mild detergent or pre-wash stain remover. If a colored fabric, such as navy or charcoal, use a detergent specifically designed for dark fabrics.

Carefully dip corner of a clean, white cloth into the detergent solution and begin dabbing the stain. Once the fabric gets saturated, rinse the cloth and apply a fresh solution of detergent. Continue repeating until the stain begins to lift.

Once the majority of stain has been removed, apply a mix of one part white vinegar to two parts cold water. The acidity of the vinegar will help break down any residual stains. Let the solution sit for 5-10 minutes, then blot with a damp cloth.

Finally, rinse the area with cold water and blot dry with a paper towel. Once fabric is dry, assess results to see if any traces of the stain remain. If so, repeat the same steps until it has been completely removed.
