The first step in tackling any stain is identifying culprit. In the case of a salad dressing stain, it's most likely oil- or water-based. If you can determine which one it is, it'll make the cleaning process much easier.
The next step is to blot or scrape stain. If you can reach the stain with a butter knife or spoon, you can scrape away excess dressing. For more stubborn stains, however, use an absorbent cloth or paper towel to dab and blot the area.
Test a small amount of your chosen cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the garment before applying it directly to the stained area. For oil-based stains, try combining one tablespoon of dishwashing soap with two cups of warm water. For water-based stains, combine one teaspoon of white vinegar with one cup of cold water.
Once you've tested your cleaning solution, apply it to the stained area using a clean cloth or paper towel. Let it sit for a few minutes before blotting area with a dry cloth or paper towel.
Once stain has been removed, launder the garment as usual. For heavily soiled items, you may want to soak them in a bucket of cool water before laundering. Be sure to check garment carefully for any remaining stains before tossing it in the dryer.
Salad dressing stains don't have to ruin your favorite trench coat. With these easy steps, you'll be able to tackle those stains and keep your fashion game strong.
