The sooner you begin treating the spot, the better your chances of removing the stain. Blot the area with a cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of dressing as possible. Do not rub or scrub it as this may cause the stain to set.
Use a laundry pre-treatment spray and/or liquid detergent directly onto the salad dressing stain. Allow the pre-treatment to rest for five minutes before rinsing it with cold water. Do not use hot water as it can cause the stain to spread and set.
Place garment in washing machine with a liquid detergent and turn the temperature dial to cold. Select the delicate cycle or, if fabric is very delicate, hand wash it instead. Once the cycle is complete, air dry the garment or tumble dry it on a low setting.
If any remnants of the stain remain after washing and drying, use a liquid detergent and some good old-fashioned elbow grease to remove them. Apply a few drops of detergent directly to the stain and rub it in with a soft brush in a circular motion. Rinse the area with cold water and repeat as necessary until all traces are gone.
