If you notice that a salad dressing stain has found its way onto your tie, don't delay. The quicker you act, better your chances are of completely removing the stain without causing any damage to your tie.
Using a clean cloth or paper towel, gently blot the stained area. Rubbing or scrubbing fabric can make the stain set more deeply, so be sure to use only light pressure when blotting the stain.
Using a mild detergent, mix a few drops with water in a bowl. Dip your cloth into the solution and lightly rub the stained area of the tie. Then rinse the area with cold water and gently dab it dry with a paper towel.
For best results, treat the stained area with a stain removal solution that is specifically formulated for delicates, such as wool or silk. Follow the instructions on the product label for the most effective results.
When washing by machine, use a gentle cycle and lukewarm water. If possible, select a delicate cycle and add a small amount of fabric softener to the washer. Once the cycle is done, hang tie up to air dry.
If the stain does not come out after attempting above steps, then it is best to take the tie to the dry cleaner for professional stain removal.
