Salad dressing is a tasty condiment, but sometimes it can create a real mess — especially when it gets onto clothing. The good news is, getting salad dressing stains off of a T-shirt doesn’t have to be a daunting task.

If the spill is fresh, your first step should be to carefully remove as much of the dressing as possible. This can be done with a spoon or knife, or with a paper towel. Be sure not to rub too hard or press down, as this may spread the stain further. Once you’ve removed as much as you can, set the stained area aside.
Next, it’s time to treat the stain. Create a mixture of one teaspoon of liquid detergent and two cups of lukewarm water. Using a clean cloth, sponge the solution onto the stained area and allow it to sit for up to 30 minutes. This will help to break down the oils in the dressing.
Once you’ve pre-treated the fabric, it’s time to wash it. To do this, turn the garment inside out and place it in the washing machine on the delicate cycle with cold water. If the stain is particularly stubborn, you can add a tablespoon of white vinegar to the water for extra power.
When cycle is complete, remove the fabric from the machine and hang it to dry. Never put the fabric in dryer, as the heat can set the stain in permanently. Allow the fabric to air dry completely. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 1–3 until the fabric is clean.
