Salad dressing stains, especially oil-based variants, can wreak havoc on your suede items - but they can be cleaned. The key is to act quickly and get it sorted as soon as possible after the accident happens, as time can make the stain even harder to remove.
What You’ll Need
- Clean cloth
- Baking Soda
- Water
- White vinegar
- Dry brush or toothbrush
- Suede conditioner
Step-by-step Instructions
- As soon as possible, take a clean cloth and gently pat at the stain on the suede item. Don’t rub it in - just dab it to soak up any excess dressing.
- Mix baking soda and water together until it forms a paste. Apply this paste gently onto the stained area. You may need to wait several hours or overnight before continuing.
- Take a dry brush or a toothbrush and scrub away the baking soda paste gently. Once the paste has been removed, use a clean cloth to dab away any moisture left.
- If the stain persists, use a small amount of white vinegar and a clean cloth to dab at the stain. Once again, use a dry cloth to remove any left-over moisture.
- Finally, apply some suede conditioner and buff it in with a soft cloth. This will help restore the nap and give the suede item a nice sheen.
You can now enjoy your stain free suede item. If the stain has not completely gone, you may need to repeat these steps a few times. It's better to repeat the cleaner actions a few times than to risk using something too harsh which might damage the material even more.
