Start by blotting the stained area with a paper towel or tissue. This helps remove any excess dressing that is still sitting on the fabric. You don't want to rub the stain because that could drive it deeper into the fabric fibers.
Next, use a pre-treatment spray or paste designed for removing these types of stains. You can also make your own solution with a tablespoon of dish soap, a teaspoon of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water. Whichever product you choose, be sure to test it on a hidden area of the fabric first.
Once you have finished treating the stain, put the garment in the washing machine. Make sure to set the machine to the gentle cycle and use cold water. Do not use hot water as this could set the stain further into the fabric.
After the garment has finished its cycle in washing machine, take it out and check the stained area to see if the stain is still visible. If it is, repeat Steps 1-3 until the stain has been completely removed.
Finally, take preventative measures to avoid future salad dressing stains. For instance, you can carry a handkerchief or napkin with you in case you accidentally spill something on yourself. Additionally, make sure to always brush off excess dressing before wearing a garment to ensure that any future spills won't leave a permanent stain.
