The First Steps

The first thing to do if you spill salad dressing on your shoe is to act fast. If you have time, take the shoe off and blot away as much of the liquid as you can with a paper towel or dry cloth. Then, turn the shoe upside down so the excess dressing can drip out.

Time to Treat the Stain

Once most of the dressing has been removed, you’ll need to use the correct cleaning method to remove the stain. For light-colored fabrics, you can make an effective natural cleaning solution at home by mixing ¼ teaspoon white vinegar, 1 ½ teaspoon dishwashing liquid, and 1 cup warm water. Once mixed, apply the solution to an area of the shoe that is not visible. This will test to make sure you don’t discolor the shoe before moving onto actual stain.

Once you know the solution won’t cause discoloration, use a soft cloth or a toothbrush to gently scrub the stained area using cleaning solution. Be careful not to scrub too hard, since this could cause the fabric to stretch. Then, rinse stained area with a damp cloth, and remove as much moisture as you can by pressing the wet cloth against fabric.

The Final Step for Removing Stain

The last step for getting rid of the stain is to apply a stain remover or laundry detergent onto the area. Gently massage the product into the fabric, and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Finally, rinse off the treatment with a wet cloth, and leave the shoe to air dry. Afterward, your shoes should look good as new!
