Step 1: Blot the Stain

As soon as you notice the salad dressing has made contact with your dress, take a clean, white paper towel and press it against the affected area. Blot up and down the surface of the stain, avoiding the temptation to rub it - rubbing can cause the stain to spread and possibly set deeper into fabric.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

Once you’ve blotted as much of the extra liquid away as you can, take a pre-treatment product (like Tide’s pre-treatment spray) and spray the area liberally. Allow the product to soak into stain for at least five minutes.

Step 3: Wash in Cold Water

Once the pre-treatment product has been given sufficient time to work, put your dress in a container of cold water and let it soak for up to thirty minutes. After the allotted time has passed, run your shift dress through the washing machine on a delicate cycle using cold water and a mild detergent.

Step 4: Air Dry

When the washing cycle has finished, avoid putting the dress in the dryer - the heat can cause the stain to set even further. Instead, hang the dress up in a well ventilated area and allow it to air dry. After it has dried, inspect area and repeat Steps 1-3 if necessary.
