First things first, whenever you spill something on your scarf, you'll want to try and blot the stain as soon as possible. This is especially important for oil-based salad dressings, since you'll want to prevent the oil from seeping into the fabric. Use a clean, dry cloth to dab the spot gently — never rub. If the stain is fresh, you may be able to absorb most of it by pressing lightly on spot.
If the stain is still visible after blotting, you might need to use a combination of laundry detergent and water. Start by mixing 1/2 teaspoon of detergent with an 8 oz cup of cold water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and then use it to blot the spot, again using gentle pressure. Continue until you have absorbed as much of the stain as possible.
If necessary, repeat the process with a new cloth and detergent solution. Once you are done, rinse the spot thoroughly with cold water. Blot excess water from the fabric — don't wring or twist the scarf.
Your last step is air-drying scarf. To avoid fading, hang the scarf in a spot out of direct sunlight. If you need to speed up the drying process, opt for a cool, indirect heat source (such as a fan). Once the scarf is completely dry, you can use a warm iron to help set the remaining stains.
