Removing Fresh Salad Dressing Stains

If stain is fresh, you should start by immediately blotting the stain with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. You should be sure to absorb as much of the moisture as possible. Once you've removed as much of excess liquid as you can, it's time to move on to step two.

Applying Stain Remover

Once you've blotted the area, you'll need to apply some type of spot cleaner or laundry detergent to the stain. Spot cleaners are specifically designed to attack tricky stains like salad dressing and will help break down the oil and residue. Make sure to use a cleaner that is safe for fabric you're working with – read the label and test the cleaner out on a non-visible part of the garment first.

Treating Stain

Allow the cleaner to sit on the stain for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water. You can then scrub the area with a brush or toothbrush to really work the cleaner into the fabric. After scrubbing, rinse the area again with warm water. Then, wash the robe in a washing machine according to care instructions.

Dealing with Set-in Stains

If the stain has set into fabric and is no longer fresh, you'll have to take extra steps. Begin by treating the area with a spot cleaner or laundry detergent and allow it to sit for 15 minutes. Next, prepare a solution of one teaspoon of chlorine bleach and one quart of cold water. Rinse the stained area with solution, then rinse again with cold water. Wash robe in a washing machine and tumble dry.
