The first and most important step for removing a salad dressing stain from poplin fabric is to blot the material as soon as possible. Take a clean cloth or paper towel and press firmly into stained area, applying pressure to remove as much of the liquid as possible. Do not rub or scrub the stain as it may spread the stain and make it harder to remove.
Once you have blotted the stain, it is time to create a detergent mixture to help break down the remaining residue. Mix 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent with 1 cup of lukewarm water in a bowl. Then, dip a soft-bristled brush or cloth into the solution and apply the mixture to the stain. Gently rub the brush or cloth over stained area in a circular motion until stain begins to lift.
Once the stain has been lifted, you should thoroughly rinse the poplin cloth in lukewarm water. For an added boost, add a teaspoon of white vinegar to the water to further break down the grease and oils in the stain. Once you are finished rinsing, air dry the cloth and inspect the area to ensure that the stain has been completely removed. If not, repeat the steps until the stain is gone.
