The easiest way to tackle salad dressing stains is to act quickly. If the stain is still wet, blot the area with a paper towel to absorb as much of dressing as possible. Then, rinse the stain from the back side with cold water. This will help keep the stain from setting.
If the stain has already dried, try using a prewash stain remover. Make sure the product is intended for use on delicate garments like polo shirts. Apply the stain remover directly to the stain, being careful not to rub it in. Let the solution sit for about 10 minutes, then launder shirt as you normally would.
If stain remains after laundering, try treating it with a mixture of two parts vinegar to one part cold water. Dip a cloth or sponge in mixture, then dab the stained area. Do not rub the fabric or you may spread stain. Once the stain is gone, rinse shirt with cold water, then launder it again.
For tough, stubborn stains, you may have to repeat these steps until the stain is completely gone. You may also want to consider taking your shirt to the dry cleaner to have them take a look at the stain. But with a little patience, you can usually remove most salad dressing stains on your own.
