Before you begin, make sure you have all of the supplies you need. The most important items are a clean cloth, club soda, white vinegar, and laundry detergent. Having these items ready will make the cleaning process much faster.
Before you attempt any stain removal techniques on your parka, it is important to test them on a hidden area first. This will help you make sure cleaning solution won’t cause damage to the material.
Once you’ve tested a hidden area, you’re ready to start removing the stain. Start by soaking a cloth in club soda, then blotting the stained area to saturate it with the solution. Let the club soda sit on stain for at least 10 minutes before proceeding.
After the club soda has had a chance to soak into the fabric, you can apply a combination of white vinegar and laundry detergent to the area. Use a clean cloth to rub the detergent and vinegar into the stain in a circular motion. Be sure to use a light touch when scrubbing.
Once you’ve rubbed the detergent and vinegar into the fabric, rinse off the area with cold water. Then, repeat steps three and four until the stain is gone. If the stain persists, you may need to use a stronger cleaning solution such as oxygen bleach or a commercial stain remover.
When the stain has been removed, allow the area to air dry. Do not put the parka in the dryer until you’re sure the stain is completely gone, as heat will cause stain to set permanently.
