It’s a fact of life: kids and adults will both occasionally spill food and drink on their clothing or pajamas. But fear not! It’s actually easier than you might think to get out tough salad dressing stains.

The first step to getting rid of a salad dressing stain is to apply a pre-treatment product directly to the stain. Try using a product made specifically for salad dressing stains, or dilute some laundry detergent with water and apply it to the stain to help break down the oils. Once you’ve applied the pre-treatment product, let it sit for at least 15 minutes before proceeding to the next step.
Once the pre-treatment product has had a chance to work its magic, it’s time to give your pajamas a proper washing. Put them into the washing machine and select the hottest cycle that’s safe for fabric; cotton and polyester can typically be washed in hot water, while more delicate fabrics like silk should be washed in cold water.
Once your pajamas have been washed, avoid putting them into the dryer; instead, opt for air drying. The heat from dryer can “bake” the stain into the fabric, making it harder to remove in future washings. As an added bonus, air drying your clothes uses less energy than machine drying and can even help extend the life of your clothing.
