The first step to removing salad dressing stains is to remove as much of the excess oil or wet dressing as possible. This can be done by blotting the area with a tissue or paper towel. Once you've removed as much of the excess dressing as possible, you'll need to begin tackling the remaining stain.
If salad dressing contains oil, you'll need to use an oil-based stain remover. If salad dressing is water-based, use a liquid detergent that's formulated for delicate fabrics. It's important to check that your detergent doesn't contain bleach or optical brighteners, which can damage the material of your outerwear.
You can apply the stain remover or detergent directly to the stained area of the outerwear, or pre-treat the fabric by soaking it in a bowl filled with warm water and the stain remover or detergent. Allow the treated area to soak for at least fifteen minutes before you put it in the washing machine.
Once you're ready to wash the outerwear, be sure to follow the washing instructions listed on the garment label. Make sure to wash the garment in cold water on a gentle cycle, and use a mild laundry detergent. You may want to add a few drops of vinegar to the wash cycle to help reduce any lingering odors.
After you've finished washing the garment, take a look at stained area. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps above until it's gone.
