No one wants to walk around with embarrassing food stains on their shoes. Whether it’s olive oil, vinegar, or mustard, getting salad dressing out of your leather loafers can be tricky. Thankfully, there are some tried and true methods for taking care of these types of stains that don’t require a trip to the dry cleaner.

Removing Salad Dressing Stains from Leather Loafers

  1. Start by preparing a mixture of soap and warm water. Use a mild, natural soap that’s formulated for leather items.
  2. Dampen a soft cloth with the soapy water and use it to lightly scrub the stain.
  3. Create a new mixture of vinegar and warm water, then lightly dab the stained area with the damp cloth.
  4. Rinse cloth, then dip it in the soapy water mixture again. Once more, gently rub the stained leather with the cloth.
  5. Leave the loafers to air-dry, then apply a leather conditioner to prevent cracking and preserve the material.

If the stain still won’t come out, you may need to spot-clean with a specialized leather cleaning product. Be sure to test the product on an inconspicuous area first to make sure it won’t damage your shoes.
