Salad dressings can be some of the most stubborn stains that end up on your clothing. Whether it be a light vinaigrette or a thicker dressing like ranch, salad dressing is difficult to remove. Luckily, there are a few simple tricks and tools you can use to completely remove salad dressing stains from your jersey.
Step 1: Act Quickly
The first step in removing any stain is acting quickly. The longer a stain sits on fabric, the harder it becomes to remove. If you're clothing is still wet, first dab off any excess dressing with a paper towel or napkin. Don't rub or scrub stain as this can set it deeper into the fabric.
Step 2: Blot with Soap and Water
The next step is to apply a mild liquid detergent directly onto stain. Gently blot the stain with a clean, damp cloth until the detergent starts to lift the stain. You may need to apply a bit of pressure in order for the detergent to penetrate deep into fibers.
Step 3: Apply White Vinegar
After detergent has been blotted off, it's time to apply white vinegar to the stain. The vinegar acts as a natural stain remover, so it will help to further break down the stain. Once the vinegar has been applied, let the jersey sit for at least 15 minutes. Once the allotted time has passed, use a clean cloth to blot off any remaining residue.
Step 4: Rinse and Machine Wash
Once all of the stain has been removed, rinse off fabric with cold water and place the jersey into the washing machine. Use the cold cycle and a gentle detergent, avoiding bleach or harsh chemicals. After wash cycle has finished, hang dry the jersey away from direct sunlight.
