When you’re attending a formal event, spills are always something to be aware of. Salad dressing is especially difficult to remove, but with the right method, you can make sure it doesn’t leave a mark.

What You Need

  • Cold water
  • A mild detergent
  • A white cloth
  • Spoon
  • Stain remover
  • Washing instructions for the fabric

Step 1: Blot the Stain

The first step is to blot stain as soon as you notice it. Use a white cloth and press gently to absorb as much of salad dressing as possible.

Step 2: Scrape the Stain

Once you’ve blotted the stain, use a spoon to gently scrape the area. This will help remove any excess salad dressing that hasn’t been absorbed by the cloth.

Step 3: Apply a Gentle Detergent

Next, apply a mild detergent directly to the stain. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then rinse with cold water. Be sure to follow the washing instructions for the fabric when applying the detergent.

Step 4: Treat the Stain

If stain persists, use a stain remover specifically designed for stained fabrics. Follow instructions on the packaging and allow the product to sit for several minutes before rinsing with cold water.

With these four simple steps, you can quickly and easily remove a salad dressing stain from your formalwear.
