Before you attempt to remove the stain, you need to determine the base of the salad dressing involved. If the salad dressing contains an oil base, you will need to use a degreasing agent first. If the salad dressing is water-based, you can skip this step.
Using a clean paper towel or an old cloth, blot the stained area until no further liquid can be absorbed. Do not rub or scrub the fabric as this could cause the stain to spread and set deeper into the fabric.
If the salad dressing is oil-based, apply a pre-wash treatment to stained area. Use a product such as a grease-fighting dish soap or a laundry detergent that contains enzymes. Work the product into the fabric with your fingers or a soft-bristled brush, then allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes.
After the pre-wash treatment, launder the fabric as usual in the hottest water that is safe for the fabric. Before the item goes into the dryer, check for any remaining stain. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 2-4 until the stain is gone.
