Before you attempt to remove grease stain, prepare the fabric. Start by testing for colorfastness on a hidden seam. If the garment passes test, gently rub a natural liquid laundry detergent into the stain with a soft brush or a damp cloth. This pre-treatment should help to break down grease in the stain and make it easier to clean.
Once you've pre-treated the stain, you can move onto washing process. The kind of detergent you use is important; ideally, you want a detergent that contains enzymes and surfactants as these are designed to break down grease and stains. Place the stained item in your washing machine and select a warm wash cycle. Add the detergent and a cup of baking soda to help with the stain removal process.
Finally, it's time to put your shirt in the dryer. Be sure to check the fabric tag on your shirt before drying to ensure it can withstand the heat. To be on the safe side, use the lowest setting possible. For delicate cotton fabrics, air drying may be a better option.
By following these steps, you can get rid of those stubborn salad dressing stains from your favourite collared shirts.
