Before you start cleaning your Carrickmacross lace, do a sample spot test. This allows you to determine if the cleaning solution won’t damage or discolor the fabric. Simply mix up a small amount of the cleaning solution according to the instructions and dab it on an inconspicuous area of the lace. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then blot with a damp cloth. If no discoloration occurs, you can proceed with cleaning.
Start by dabbing a bit of mild detergent on the stained area. Let it sit for several minutes before moving on to the next step. This helps loosen the salad dressing and make it easier to remove.
Once stain is pre-treated, use a damp cloth and a gentle soap to work the stain out. Take care not to rub the fabric too hard, as this could damage delicate fibers. You may need to repeat this step a few times before you can see the stain coming out.
After you’ve worked the stain out, rinse area thoroughly with clean water to remove all traces of the soap and stain. Once you’re satisfied that the area is clean, let the fabric air dry. Don’t put Carrickmacross lace in dryer, as the combination of heat and agitation could damage the delicate fibers.
If stain persists, you may have to repeat the above steps a few times. Don’t give up; eventually, you should be able to get the stain out without damaging the delicate lace fabric.
