The first step is to use a clean cloth and gently blot stained area. Blotting helps remove any excess dressing from the fabric and prevents it from getting deeper into the fabric.
Once you have blotted stain, you can pre-soak the fabric using mild detergent. Ideally, the detergent should be gentle on the fabric so that it does not damage the material. Let the fabric soak in the detergent solution for 15-30 minutes.
After pre-soaking, rinse the fabric with cold water thoroughly. Make sure that there are no traces of detergent left on the fabric as it could cause irritation to skin. It is also important to note that calico fabric is quite delicate and can shrink if washed with hot or warm water.
Once fabric is rinsed well, apply a specialized stain remover to the stained area. You can find these stain removers in most supermarkets or grocery stores. Follow application instructions given by the manufacturer carefully and let the fabric dry afterwards.
Finally, wash the fabric with mild detergent in cold water. It is best to use a gentle cycle and air-dry the fabric afterwards. This will ensure that the fabric is not damaged in any way during the washing process.
