Accidentally spilling some salad dressing on your clothes can be a pretty embarrassing situation. Whether you’re at work or out with friends, it’s important to know how to restore your shirt to its original glory.

Step 1: Rinse with Cold Water

The first step to removing a salad dressing stain is to rinse the affected area with cold water. This helps to prevent the dressing from sinking further into the fabric. It’s also important to avoid hot water, as this could set the dye in the dressing.

Step 2: Blot the Stain

Once the area is damp, blot stain using a clean white cloth. Again, make sure not to rub stain as this could make it spread. Soak up as much of the dressing as possible.

Step 3: Treat with Detergent

After blotting the stain, apply a small amount of detergent directly to the area. Gently rub the detergent into the fabric and wait a few minutes before rinsing with cold water. The detergent helps to break down the oil in dressing, making the stain easier to remove.

Step 4: Apply Stain Remover

If the stain remains, apply a laundry pre-treatment product. Use a clean white cloth to apply the pre-treatment to the stained area. Allow product to sit for about 10 minutes before washing the shirt in cold water.

Step 5: Wash Shirt

Finally, launder shirt as normal. Don’t forget to check to make sure the stain is gone before drying it in the dryer. If the stain has not been removed, repeat the process until the stain is gone.
