Step 1: Act Quickly!

The first and most important step is to act quickly! Blot up as much of the liquid as possible with kitchen paper towels. If the item is washable, rinse it out immediately with cold water. If the fabric is dry-clean only, do not attempt to rinse it.

Step 2: Treat the Stain

Once you have blotted up as much of the liquid as possible, make a paste out of 1 part dishwashing detergent and 2 parts cold water. Gently rub this into the stain in a circular motion, being careful not to damage the fabric. Once you have rubbed paste into the stain, let it sit for 10 minutes before blotting dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.

Step 3: Use a Stain Remover

If the stain persists, try using a commercial stain remover specifically designed for removing oil and grease stains. Make sure to check the label for the appropriate cleaning instructions. Dab the stain removal directly onto the affected area and let it sit for 10 minutes without rubbing or scrubbing the fabric. Once you have let it sit for 10 minutes, rinse garment with cold water then blot with paper towels to remove the remaining stain removal solution.

Step 4: Final Rinse

Once you have followed all of the steps above, allow the garment to air-dry and inspect for any remaining stains. If stain is still visible, rinse garment one more time with cold water and a small amount of detergent, then air dry again.
