When you carry around snacks and lunch in your backpack, it’s inevitable that a few drops of salad dressing will make their way into the fabric. While this can be frustrating and embarrassing, it doesn’t mean you should give up on your favorite backpack just yet. By following these easy steps, you can get rid of any pesky salad dressing stains and restore your backpack to its former glory.
Before you start the stain removal process, make sure you have all materials you need. You’ll need laundry detergent, vinegar, water, a clean cloth, and a brush or scrubbing sponge. These materials are usually easy to find around your house or at the store.
To make the cleaning solution, start by combining one part laundry detergent and one part water in a bowl. If the stain is large or especially stubborn, you can add one teaspoon of vinegar to the mixture. Stir until ingredients are well blended.
Next, apply the cleaning solution to the stain using a clean cloth or a brush. Rub in a circular motion until the detergent breaks down the salad dressing and begins to lift the stain. For more stubborn stains, let the detergent mixture sit on the stain for a few minutes before scrubbing.
Once the stain has been sufficiently lifted, rinse the area with cold water. Make sure to rinse until all traces of detergent are gone. Then, allow the area to air dry.
If the stain is still visible after the first attempt, repeat steps 2-4 until the stain is gone. Do not be discouraged if the stain does not come out immediately; sometimes these stains take multiple tries to remove completely.
