Salad dressing is a great condiment for your meals, but when it ends up on your countertops, appliances, or floors – it can be a real headache to get rid of. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be complicated or time consuming to erase these messes. With right techniques and supplies, you can quickly get rid of those pesky and stubborn spots. Here's an easy guide to cleaning up salad dressing stains.
If the dressing spill is fresh, it’s important to act quickly and blot away any excess dressing as soon as possible. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to to remove as much of the dressing as possible. Blot, don’t wipe, to prevent the liquid from spreading to larger areas.
Once you’ve blotted away any excess dressing, you need to pretreat stain. This will help loosen up the residue and make it easier to clean. A mixture of warm water and liquid dish soap is an effective pretreatment agent. Just mix a teaspoon of detergent into a cup of warm water and apply the solution to the stain with a cloth.
Now that the stain has been pretreated, it’s time to apply a cleaning agent. Choose a cleaner designed for the surface that has been affected. If it’s tile or ceramic, you can use any all-purpose cleaner. For stainless steel, use a specialist stainless steel cleaner. For laminate surfaces, use a mild detergent and water solution. Rub cleaner in a circular motion over the stain, then wipe with a damp cloth and dry with a clean, soft cloth.
Once the cleaner has been applied, it’s important to carefully rinse and dry the area. This will help prevent any streaks or residues from remaining on surface. Use a soft cloth and water to rinse away any residue, then towel dry with a clean cloth.
